  • Ways to be proactive rather than reactive in  preventing childhood lead poisoning, promoting healthy housing  and reducing asthma incidents

A panel of subject matter experts will discuss a variety of ways that local agencies and advocacy groups can be proactive in the lead poisoning prevention and healthy housing fields.       

  • The 10 Best Bets to Prevent Childhood Lead Poisoning

A panel of policy makers and local practitioners will examine the policies that federal, state and local officials can implement to prevent lead exposure and give children that have been exposed the greatest opportunities for success.

  • Finding EBLs among hard to reach populations, including EBLs from culturally-based lead hazards among immigrant populations

Track #1: Educational Track on Lead Poisoning Prevention and Lead Hazard Control

  • Codes information software as an inspection tool in the field
  • Elevated blood lead levels response requirements  in light of the amendments to HUD’s Lead Safe Housing Rule
  • How local agencies and industry might respond to HUD’s new lead in dust clearance standards

Track #2:  Educational Track on Healthy Housing Issues

  • Lessons learned from Green and Healthy Housing Initiatives in the Midwest Region concerning integrated home interventions
  • Coalition building to implement healthy housing programs
  • Green vs. healthy housing

  • Using outreach and education to be proactive in the fight against childhood lead poisoning

Throughout the two days, attendees will have several opportunities to meet with colleagues throughout the region to discuss program ideas, ways to deal with problem areas and ways to meet program goals.
