Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed over 200 square miles of Louisiana’s unique and intricate ecosystem, home to more than 70 rare, threatened, or endangered species. Beyond its world ecological significance, the wetlands are the heart of America’s Energy Coast, a place that fuels the nation and provides for its domestic energy and economic security. Although efforts continue to rebuild the cities, addressing the environmental effects on the wetlands remain vital to the region’s recovery as they provide the last natural barrier for cities and towns when natural disasters occur.
Attendees will be picked up at the Astor Crowne Plaza at 8:00 a.m. You will drive in a deluxe, climate-controlled motor coach with licensed tour guides to provide a customized, narrated tour to and from the bayou region of southern Louisiana that has been specially prepared to consider the interests and professional experiences of conference attendees. Upon arriving in Cajun country, attendees will depart on swamp boats for a guided tour of the marsh area complete with exotic tropical plants and wildlife including herons, nutria, turtle and alligators.
